Vintage French Cast Stone Terra Cotta Bird Bath France circa 1940

This charming vintage French cast stone bird bath circa 1940 has been liberated from its former setting in a tangled and overgrown garden located in western France to enjoy a new life. Please be sure to enlarge all of the photographs provided to see the marvelous weathering the surface has achieved because of its years spent outdoors. The top basin has a shallow profile with a generous size to fill with water while the pedestal has a wonderfully shaped pedestal that is larger at the base than the top. The tapered shape of the pedestal throws the symmetrically decorated surface into relief and enables the bird bath to be seen and admired from all sides.

The basin and the pedestal are separate pieces to be easily moved. Although this is primarily an outdoor piece traditionally used in gardens we have also seen pieces like this located in a garden room or glass house adjacent to a home where a bird bath laden with plants creates an unusual and memorable focal point.
